Lucy's Lazy Dayz Primitives

Hi, I'm Lucy Rox from west central Wisconsin. I've been sewing since the age of 5. Sewing and designing things to sew are my very favorite things to do. I've been making dolls since my children were small and making them professionally for (gasp) 30 years.

Everything you see on my page is designed and handmade entirely by me in a smoke free home. I love antiques, primitives and folk art and you'll see those influences in everything I make.

Examples of my work have been published in both Art Doll Quarterly and Prims magazine.

Primitive Penny Rug style wool owl make do

(Click on the image above to enlarge)

14 1/2 inch tall owl make-do made of 5 different wool fabrics. It measures 8 1/2 inches wide and 5 inches from front to back. The owl is stuffed with polyester fiberfill and has a needle sculpted beak that's painted antique gold. All the parts are hand stitched onto the machine sewn body with black crochet thread with the look of a penny rug. The eyes are gray buttons stitched in place with pale gray wool needle felted around the top and outer edge of the eye button. The entire owl is attached to a vintage factory spool. It is stitched through holes in the spool with heavy thread that's also wrapped around the bottom of the owl and tied. The base is signed "designed and made with love, Lucy Rox" and dated.

Primitive Folk Art needle felted gray sheep

(Click on the image above to enlarge)

6 1/2 inches tall and 8 inches long, these gorgeous sheep have black faces (with stitched brown eyes) and ears, and stick legs. The bodies are made of recycled wool fabric and they are needle felted with wool from sheep raised here in Wisconsin. I wash and sort the wool myself and felt the bodies with felting needles. These sheep are so soft and beautiful..the picture just doesn't do them justice.
There is a round tag attached to jute twine. It says "baa. baa, baa" one one side and "have you any wool" on the other side.

Handmade Folk Art Steampunk Owl Make do

(Click on the image above to enlarge)

The wise old barn owl is 14 inches tall and 7 inches wide. The base is a vintage wood and metal factory spool that measures 5 1/4 inches in diameter.
I used 5 different woolen fabrics recycled from skirts and blazers to create this wise old owl. He is stuffed with polyester fiberfill and attached to the base with wire and glue. (there is additional support glued into the spool as well to help support the owl so he will always stand and not start to lean). The overlapping layers of wool are hand stitched to the body.
As you look at him, the eye on the left is a button with rusty wire staples holding it in place. His beak is needle sculpted and painted. The eye on the right is a brass gear from a vintage cuckoo clock. The wings have upholstery tacks attached with jeweler's glue . There is chain from the cuckoo clock along the top of the tummy piece and the chain is attached with brass nails glued in place with jewelers glue. There are additional watch and clock gears on his upper chest. They are attached with screws and jeweler's glue.
He will come signed, designed and made with love Lucy Rox, and dated
